SASANIAN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING WITH RED GARNET INTAGLIO DEPICTING GRYLLOS Ca. AD 400 - 600. A red garnet intaglio engraved with a figure of Gryllos, composed of a fusion of human and animal features arranged in profile. The details are incised with fine linear strokes. The gem is set within a beaded gold bezel bordered by clustered granules and flanked by large spheres on either side. The hoop is formed from twisted gold wire. For similar see: D.
