SASANIAN SERPENTINE STAMP SEAL DEPICTING HORSE AND RIDER Ca. AD 400 - 600 . A domed seal carved from serpentine stone, with a polished convex upper surface and a flat engraved base. The intaglio depicts a male rider facing left, mounted on a horse positioned above a small plant and a hatched groundline. The composition is framed by a Pahlavi inscription flanking the rider on both sides. A central perforation runs vertically through the dome. Studied by PD Dr. habil.
