SASANIAN TERRACOTTA SEAL DEPICTING A HORSE AND RIDER. Ca. AD 200 - 400. A terracotta roundel moulded with a central scene enclosed by a beaded border and set within an outer raised rim. The interior shows a horseman to the right, wearing a ribbed, close-fitting garment, his right hand grasping the reins and his left hand raised before his face. The horse is shown in motion with the right foreleg lifted and the mane indicated by short incised strokes. Size: 50mm x 140mm; Weight: 825g Provenance: Private London collection; previously French art market 1970s/1980.
