Lot no. 374
Pastoral scene Flemish tapestry, probably Brussels Late 17th century Woven in wool and silk Height 252 x Width 233 cm. This charming fragment depicts a pastoral scene with two cows and a young musician. The group is set in the heart of a wooded landscape, where the monumental vegetation gives rhythm to the composition and opens onto a vast plain. The presence of the broken trunk and the stream in the foreground reinforce the bucolic character of the scene. This fragment has retained its beautiful colours. It shows some wear in the silks, old restorations, reweaving and probably a re-striping. It is reduced in height and width. Expert : Alexandre CHEVALIER
