The scene of the Taverna or Diversorium from the Fazzina collection was set on a 'rock' with a tempera-painted backdrop from the end of the 18th century depicting barrels with a courtyard and a wagon in the distance, by the collector and great connoisseur Renato Catello, who also purchased most of the shepherds and accessories, as is evident from documents. The 'scoglio' made of cork, wood and papier-mâché, as it is called in crib jargon, is the scenographic support that allows the figures to be posed according to the role they play.
