Extremely rare first edition of one of the most beautiful festival books published in the 16th century. The text was written by Maurice Scève, Claude de Taillemnt, Guillaume Du Choul and Barthélémy Aneau. The beautiful illustrations include large ornate lettering and 15 admirable large woodcuts based on drawings by Bernard Salomon, known as Petit Bernard. The latter show officers in costume, triumphal arches, street views and even the royal galleys on the Rhône.
THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST LYONNAIS BOOKS OF THE RENAISSANCE.
A superb copy in a fresh binding by Marcel Godillot, a worker at Marot-Rodde in 1929 (Baudrier IX, 161-65, 36 ff. ?) (USTC 27268, 4 ex.) (Brunet II, 996) (Mortimer French, n°201).
Small restoration to title, two penciled characters.
