In-4 grey morocco, smooth spine, bands of garnet-red morocco on covers, including a current one on the spine with the author's name in gilt lettering and a vertical band in the centre of the first cover bearing the title in mosaic letters of black morocco on a background of semis of gilt dots, linings of garnet-red morocco in a frame of gilt fillet, endpapers of garnet-red moire, tr. gilt, in grey half-maroquin folder and edged slipcase, covers and spine preserved (Ad. Lavaux). Spine of dust jacket slightly oiled with some light rubbing. Schmied's illustrations include a cover, 49 woodcuts in colour, 5 of which are full-page, 25 head and tailpieces and 19 large ornate letters, most of which are enhanced with silver. Schmied's first important book, with a highly refined and elegant layout and typography. Coloured discharges on the facing pages, as is often the case. Edition of 140 copies; n°116 with Schmied's signature to the receipt. Ex-libris Georges Gonot. A superb copy.
