Lot no. 77
SCYTHIAN BRONZE IBEX ON STAND Ca. 700 - 600 BC. A bronze ibex combines careful observation of the animal's anatomy, showcasing a well-articulated muzzle, jawbone, and long curved horns, presented in a symmetrical, heraldic posture. A pierced conical stand at the bottom of the hooves indicates that this figure would have been inserted into a staff or base, likely made of wood, and secured with a pin. Additionally, it may have served as a decorative element for the lid of a box or on a piece of furniture. For similar see: Or des scythes,‎ Editions des musees nationaux (Jan. 1 1971), fig. 163. Size: 105mm x 60mm; Weight: 215g. Provenance: Property of an Oxfordshire art professional; previously in an old British collection, formed in the 1980s on the UK / International art markets.
