SECRETAIRE “À ABATTANT” Louis XVI, Paris, ca. 1770. Signed S. Vie (Sébastine Vie, master craftsman 1767) and with guild stamp. Rosewood, amaranth, and other partially stained and engraved woods richly inlaid with vases and flower vases in rectangular reserves with Greek-style fillets. Rectangular body on a cut-out frame and console feet. Front with drawer above a fold-down writing panel and lower double doors flanked by slanted corner pilasters. The upper drawer is inlaid with a meander frieze and slightly offset by brass fillets. The interior is lined with black leather embossed with gold and opens into six drawers and four compartments. The lower doors open into three compartments, one with a removable and lockable compartment. Gilt bronze fittings shaped like rosettes. White, grey-speckled marble top with shaped edge. 1 key. 83 × 41(82) × 139.5 cm. Minor losses, some fading. Cracks. Lower escutcheon missing, keyhole of the upper drawer concealed by a later bronze fitting.
