Very rare Meissen Art Nouveau figurine "Nude (Eve) with apple". A female nude (probably Eve) with long brown hair standing on an irregular, low plinth, her raised head turned to the left and her arms folded behind her back. She holds an apple in her right hand and a cloth falling to the ground in her left. Polychrome accentuated painting. Designed by Martin Wiegand, c. 1906 - 1909. model no. Y 131. Minimally rest/best; centreboard mark. H. 26 cm. The sculptor and painter Martin Wiegand studied at the Dresden Academy. Between 1906 and 1907, his successful application as a painting supervisor led him to the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Meissen on a trial basis, where he subsequently worked as a freelancer until 1909. From 1910, the Munich-based artist maintained a studio with a kiln in Nymphenburg. Martin Wiegand created a wide range of designs for Art Nouveau figurines, vessels and decorations, which were realised both in Meissen from 1906 to 1909 and in his Munich studio. A corresponding figure by Wiegand is the model "Eva" with apple, also from the Meissen period. Cf. Jedding, p. 171. A very rare Art Nouveau porcelain figure of a female nude with apple.
