Rare Empire figurine pendule as an allegory of trade after a design by the Parisian bronzier Michel
Bronze, gilt and partly dark patinated. Fully sculpted, scenic depiction of a coloured sailor, leaning against a large, tied tobacco package. Next to him a rum barrel and a large anchor as an allegory of trade and seafaring. Below a moulded plinth with a thematically corresponding frieze of putti loading and unloading a boat. Profile-framed white enamel dial, inscribed Gustaf Unden. Pendulum movement with thread suspension and half-hour strike on bell. Designed by Michel, c. 1808. H. 36 cm. 29 cm x 9.5 cm.
