Lot no. 1304
Rare figurine pendulum "Cupid carrying a magic lantern" in bronze, fire-gilt and enamelled. Fully sculpted depiction of an advancing Cupid with inset eyes, carrying a magic lantern on his wings. Symbolising the passing of time in the truest sense of the word, the display case is replaced by the unmarked enamel dial. Enamel dial marked Raphanel à St. Omer, a symbolism supported by Cupid's pointing gesture. Pendulum movement with thread suspension and half-hour strike on bell. Below an oval plinth on claw feet. H. 46 cm. Expertise by Kunsthandel Michael Nolte, Münster 1999. Cf. Niehüser, p. 129, fig. 110. A rare French gilt bronze mantel clock. Dial with minor flaws. Strikes half hour on a bell. France. Around 1800.
