Rare Louis XVI pendulum by François Vion Bronze, gilt and partly dark patinated. A rectangular base with a scalloped frieze in relief and a fully sculpted depiction of a striding horse with a tasselled saddlecloth symbolising the progression of time. Round clock case with vase finial above. Glazed enamel dial, marked Viger à Paris. Pendulum movement with thread suspension and half-hour strike on bell. Plate also marked Viger Paris No. 1042, case marked VION on the back. Feet and back cover missing. Lid missing. H. 32,5 cm. 19 cm x 9 cm. Cf. Ottomeyer/Pröschel, p. 180; Tardy II, illus. p. 232 and p. 641. Provenance: from the Michahelles Collection, Hamburg, which has grown over generations.
