Seated young couple holding a book in their hands in front of a lattice-worked, open-worked arbour surrounded by sculptural flower tendrils. Designed by Peter Reinicke, c. 1750, polychrome painting with gold staffage. Minimally restored; crossed swords mark. H. 20 cm. Modelled on an etching of a reading couple in an arbour by Gabriel Huquier after Francois Boucher. A series of Chinese groups of this type were created from the 1740s onwards by J. J. Kaendler, P.
