Rare Meissen figurine group "Lady and Harlequin with Parrot"
From the Italian Comedy. Oval base covered with sculpted flowers and leaves. A lady in a dress with Indian flowers sitting on a gueridon with a parrot, feeding a parrot sitting above her in the branches from a bowl of cherries. Behind her an approaching harlequin in a diamond-patterned jacket and striped trousers, holding up cherries. Designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler, c. 1745, polychrome painting with subtle gold decoration. Unw. rest.; very minimally dam.; crossed swords mark. H. 18 cm.
Kaendler mentions the figure in his 1745 taxa: "A Watteau group, where a well-dressed woman sits on a lawn and has a basket filled with cherries on her lap, from which she gives cherries to a parrot sitting next to her on a tree, next to her is a small table, on it a parrot, with an arlequin". A few groups, slightly varying in design, can be found in important collections.
