Rare Meissen magnificent pendulum with cotton wool painting A curved body rising on four volute feet, framed by sculpted rocailles and acanthus leaves. Crowned by a seated flora with flower. Different scenes after Watteau and Lancret or from the Italian Comedy in courtly park landscapes on three sides of the wall. The scene on the front showing a gathering in the park after Nicolas IV de Larmessin's "Le Midi" after Nicolas Lancret, from the series "Les quatre parties du jour" from 1741 (Meissen Archive, inv. VA 2258-13). Lateral scene with two figures from the Italian Comedy, taken from an etching by Charles Nicolas Cochin the Elder after Antoine Watteau "Pour garder 'honneur d' une belle (...)", c. 1717-1726 (Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum, Inv. RP-P-OB-42.825). Design probably by Johann Gottlieb Ehder, Johann Friedrich Eberlein and Johann Joachim Kaendler, 1742. Fine polychrome painting probably by Johann Georg Heintze. Rich gilding. Round clock case with black Roman numerals on a white enamelled dial. Hour strike on bell. Minor restored/chipped. H. 41 cm. A clock case of the same shape by the designer trio, painted by J. G. Heintze, which is crowned by Diana, is in the Dresden Porcelain Collection, inv. no. PE 99. A pendulum with a similar crown and from the former Jack Linsky Collection is in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Cf. Pietsch, Triumph der blauen Schwerter, no. 407; Bodinek, Raffinesse im Akkord, vol. 2, no. 162 and no. 366. A rare splendid mantle clock finely painted with scenes after Watteau and Lancret probably by J. G. Heintze. Minor chipped/restored. Meissen. Circa 1742 - 1745.
