Lot no. 519
Rare monumental figurine "Cock" for the "Porzellan-Palais" at the Leipzig Spring Fair 1921
White porcelain. A rooster with upturned plumage standing on a suitably curved base with ascending rocailles. Designed by Arthur Storch (1870 - 1947), 1921. ligated design monogram "A.St." with date "1921". Production-related fire cracks. Remainder; manufacturer's mark. H. 97 cm.
Arthur Storch was known above all for the naturalistic design of his animal figures. The large figure of the cockerel is part of a group of 16 large sculptures that Storch produced together with Hugo Meisel for the Leipzig "Porzellan-Palais". The figures, which were shown for the first time at the 1921 Spring Fair, caused a sensation due to their extraordinary size. Even today, they are still regarded as masterpieces of "artistic and technical craftsmanship". They were only produced in a small series of an estimated 10 moulds per model. Another example formerly in the Arnold Collection.
