Rare rococo foot bowl, so-called credenza. Silver. Domed, florally curved stand, divided by vertical lines, merging into a flat, smooth plate with a corresponding florally curved, multi-profiled rim with stylised rocaille decoration. Inventory stamp in the form of the oval coat of arms cartouche of the Kingdom of Saxony. Marked, tremolier line, hallmark, master Johann Philipp Heckenauer (became master in 1741). Weight approx. 700 g. H. 7.5 cm. D. 27.5 cm. Works by the master can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; in the Silver Collection of Weimar Palace and in the Bavarian National Museum, Munich. According to the consignor, the inventory mark is that of the Saxon Silver Collection in Gotha due to its oval shape. The comparable inventory mark from the silver chamber in Weimar has a different shield shape. So far, three silver pieces with identical inventory hallmarks have been identified. All three pieces were made by the Gotha-based court goldsmith Johann Andreas Gerbet (mentioned from 1729). Cf. Seling, 2007, BZ 1980, no. 2332.
