Rare group of soldiers by Meissen A round rocaille base decorated with a sword, helmet and military equipment amidst foliage. In front of a leaf-covered tree, a scenic depiction of uniformed soldiers of the Prussian army supporting a wounded comrade who has fallen to the ground. Fine polychrome painting with gold staffage. Designed by Emmerich Andresen, circa 1895/96, model no. P 182, minimally chipped/remaining; sword mark. H. 25.5 cm. Extremely vivid depiction with elaborately detailed uniforms, designed by the sculptor and porcelain sculptor Emmerich Andresen (1843 - 1902), who studied in Hamburg under Ernst Gottfried Vivié and at the Dresden Academy of Art under Ernst Julius Hähnel. He was appointed head of the design department at the Meissen porcelain manufactory in 1886. Known for his bronze and marble sculptures and monuments in Dresden, Meissen and Tübingen, Andresen created numerous sculptures in the manner of monumental large-scale sculptures. In addition to allegorical figures or groups of soldiers, Andresen also created several heroes of Greek and Germanic mythology and legends, moulded in porcelain. Cf.
