Rare early Böttger stoneware tankard with the monogram of Augustus the Strong
Red-brown stoneware with a polished exterior. Cylindrical body with an eared handle on the side. The crowned Augustus Rex monogram for King Augustus II in the centre of the wall, flanked by the divided royal Polish and electoral Saxon double coat of arms with Polish eagle and Lithuanian horseman as well as the Saxon lozenge and the coats of arms of the Duchies of Berg, Jülich and Cleves. The electoral shield with crossed swords in the centre. Floral border. Gold-coloured overglaze painting. Profiled pewter mounting with spherical thumb rest, probably added in the 19th century; monogr. "F B" and "No 5" on the lid. Marked, Dresden city mark, master Carl Julius Adolph Böhmer (became master 1848). Total h. 24 cm.
An almost identical coat of arms can be found above the entrance door to the town hall in Löbau.
