Rare tea kettle on rechaud by Peter-Karl Fabergé silver. Round base above four flared, fluted legs. The holder for the insertable burner made of narrow struts below. Bellied jug with a moulded round base, secured by pins attached to chains. Edged, recessed shoulder surrounded by a palmette and floral chalice frieze, merging into a hinged, cambered lid rising in the centre with a large, fully sculpted pine knob. Deep-set, curved tubular spout. Edged handle and insulating ring made of ivory. Lid rim, handle mounts and base decorated with a pearl band. Gilt interior. Burner and base with corresponding, incised inv. no. "17076". Marked 88, foreman's mark "AW" by Alexander Wäkeva (Väkevä) (active 1891-1917), maker's mark with court supplier's mark and further mark "AT" and probably Finnish import mark with fineness mark, presumably immediately after Finland's declaration of independence from Russia in 1917. Total h. 33.5 cm. Alexander Wäkeva (1870-1957) took over the workshop founded by his father Stephan Wäkeva in 1856 after his death in 1910. Stephan Wäkeva originally came from Finland and went to St. Petersburg in 1843 to train as a silversmith. Wäkeva's workshop supplied Fabergé with bodyware and smaller silver objects. Cf.
