Rare Meissen mural "Harlequin Couple" from the "Limited Masterpieces" collection
Rectangular panel on wood. Almost mirror-filling depiction of a harlequin couple framed by colourful fields of colour with gold contours, probably inspired by Italian comedy. A couple posing in colourful costumes and feathered hats in the context of the Venetian carnival on a white background. Polychrome underglaze and overglaze painting. Decor designed by Jörg Danielczyk. Enclosed certificate from the "Limited Masterpieces" collection. Limited edition 23/25, crossed swords mark with gold signet. 35.5 cm x 35 cm.
Cf. certificate: The sculptor and designer Danielczyk visited Venice during the carnival, where he was inspired by the skilfully sketched character depiction of the harlequin couple. The Venetian carnival and masked festival, whose tradition dates back to the 11th century, is one of the most artistically significant festivals of its kind.
