Paris, Pierre Chevalier, 1613. 2 parts in one volume in folio, fawn morocco à la Du Seuil, coats of arms in the centre, spine decorated, gilt edges (contemporary binding). The first part comprises the works of Seneca the Philosopher, accompanied by commentaries by J. Lipse, M.-A. Muret, F. Pincianus, Erasmus, J. Opsopœus, J. Gruter and F. Juret, and the Loci communes under separate pagination. The second part brings together the works of Seneca the Rhetor, followed by André Schott's commentary (De claris apud Senecam rhetoribus), both of the same date but addressed to Pierre Chevalier. The initial title, in red and black, is adorned with a fine portrait of Seneca engraved by Léonard Gaultier. A copy bearing the arms of a convent, possibly the abbey of Sainte-Geneviève in Paris, "given to the Capuchins by Laurent Hardouin, now a Capuchin in the province of Champagne", according to a handwritten ex-dono. In 1739, it was listed in the library catalogue of the Capuchin convent in Sedan, according to a handwritten note on the title. Spellbinding, worn edges, scattered dampstaining.
