SERGIUS PAUSER* (Vienna 1896 - 1970 Klosterneuburg) Portrait of a man, 1969 oil/canvas 67,5 x 54,5 cm signed Sergius Pauser, dated 69 ESTIMATE € 300 - € 500 STARTING PRICE € 300 Sergius Pauser studied from 1919 to 1924 in Munich and from 1925 to 1926 at the Vienna Academy with Karl Sterrer. He lived in Vienna, became a member of the Secession in 1927 and received the Austrian State Prize in 1932. Study trips took him to Italy, France and Switzerland in 1938, where he was encouraged in his realistic, expressive style of painting. In 1943 Pauser took over the management of the master school for portrait painting at the academy and was appointed professor in 1947. In the post-war period he was a sought-after portraitist and firmly integrated into the Austrian art scene. He made portraits of many politicians and actors and received numerous prizes and honours. His work was shown in a major retrospective at the Austrian Gallery in 1996 and is in numerous important collections.
