Two-column gothic folio of [324] pages, stamped fawn calf on wood, decorated with straight and oblique cold fillets forming four panels punctuated with small square fleurons, five-ribbed spine, smooth edges (Binding of the period). A very rare incunabulum, certainly one of the first two editions of this collection of anonymous fifteenth-century sermons. This collection is called Paratus because the two series of sermons it contains begin with this word. There were at least twenty-two editions of the work between 1480 and 1500, most of them undated. Conrad Winters, a printer in Cologne, published two similar editions of the collection around 1480, this one dated "before 15 August 1480" according to a purchase note in the copy in the Royal Library of Belgium. The other edition is dated "circa 1480". The ISTC lists only fifteen copies of this edition, of which only two are in the United States and none in France. A precious copy preserved in its original stamped fawn calf binding, with wide margins and complete with the first blank page. It has not been rubricated. Marginal annotations and small pen drawings in the margins of the text. Handwritten ex-libris in Latin of Jean Gay and frère Pierre de Laloue (dated 1526) accompanied by drawings on the binding's countersleeves and colophon (f. C8). Lacks, accidents and restorations to the binding, spine rebound, light spotting in the margins of a few leaves, a few stains and soiling not serious in the text, worm damage to the corner of the last leaves.
