Lot no. 113
SET OF GREEK BRONZE TREFOIL BREASTPLATES AND BELT
Ca. 500 - 400 BC. A Greek armour comprising front and back plates and two parts of the belt. The pectoral, or panoply, is composed of a central three-lobed guard formed by three raised hemispheres. This design held both symbolic and functional significance, as metal with this particular shape was more durable. The parts of the belt comprise two main rectangular-shaped elements, featuring a movable connection at the centre to allow for flexibility. The finials are adorned with the palmette motif. Size: 60-270mm x 190-270mm; Weight: 1.1kg. Provenance: Private London collection, acquired on the Austrian art market in the 1980s.
