Sèvres lidded vase with sang-de-boeuf glaze Elongated, ovoid body with rounded shoulder and short neck. Overlapping, hemispherical lid. Celadon-coloured and flame-red running glaze (so-called sang de boeuf or oxblood glaze) with craquelé in the style of Chinese porcelain vases. Standing ring with profiled metal mount. Modelled on East Asian ceramics, the variety and beauty of reduction glazes, especially the oxblood glaze, were developed from around 1880 in various European porcelain manufactories, including Berlin, Copenhagen, Meissen and Sèvres. From around 1900 until the 1920s, the Sèvres manufactory produced numerous porcelains with precious, technically extremely difficult to produce artistic glazes.
