SEVRES. Manufacture Nationale. Part of a historic blue and gold dinner service commissioned in 1922 for Emperor Khai Dinh (1885-1925) 12th Emperor of the Nguyen dynasty, of Annam (Vietnam), he reigned from 1916 until his death. Each piece is decorated in the centre with the Annam coat of arms representing a five-clawed dragon, a sword in fess charged with the ramparts of the Forbidden Purple City in Hué, traditional Chinese characters (translation: Khai-Dinh), the wing with a blue background decorated with a frieze of foliage and gold scrolls. It comprises 57 pieces: - 33 dinner plates, D: 22.2cm - 2 oval dishes. L: 44 x 28.7cm & L: 39.5 x 26cm -12 soup plates: D. 23 cm (x10) and 24.3 cm (x2) (5 with small chips, 1 damaged, glued back) -10 dessert plates.
