SEXTUS EMPIRICUS - [HUART Claude]. Les Hipotiposes ou Institutions Pirroniennes de Sextus Empiricus(...) traduites du Grec. Sans lieu, sans nom, [Amsterdam], 1725; in-12 of [16] ff, 434 pp, late 18th century red morocco, three gilt fillets framing the boards, arms in the centre, smooth spine decorated, olive wood, gilt edges. First edition of the French translation by Claude Huart of this précis of sceptical philosophy. The work demonstrates the influence of the sceptics on Western thought. This copy also figured in the fine A. Kühnholtz-Lordon collection. Kühnholtz-Lordat collection (etched bookplate). - PHP stamp. Paper uniformly browned, otherwise excellent condition. Brunet, Manuel du libraire, V, 327. - Olivier, pl. 2612, iron 5.
