Signed Louis XVI cylinder bureau by Henry Dasson after a model by Jean Henry Riesener for Marie Antoinette Amaranth and mahogany, veneered and inlaid with various precious woods and gilt bronze applications. Straight, rectangular frame on tapered square legs. Three drawers of different sizes in the articulated front, with a concealed locking mechanism in the centre. Pull-out work surface above with gold-embossed leather inlay. Cambered cylinder lock with inlaid musical attributes. Staggered compartments behind. Slightly protruding top panel with open-worked gallery framing of volute motifs. Profile-framed veneer panels of finely inlaid latticework on all sides and reserves in relief with putti scenes. Signed on the side. Henry Dasson 1886 and corresponding stamped signature on the side; h.104 cm. 113 cm x 64 cm. Henry Dasson (1825-1996), the famous Parisian cabinetmaker for luxury furniture, often based on famous historical models, began his career as a bronze sculptor, in contrast to other cabinetmakers of his time, which can be seen not least in the quality of his bronze applications.
