One of 30 copies of the first edition on japon, numbered and signed by the publisher (no. 23). Translated from "Ricordi alpini delle Dolomiti" by M. A. Vialls; we have been unable to find any information on the original edition of this work in Italian, which was probably not published at the time: only this English translation appears in the catalogue of the C.A.I. central library. The work was recently published in Italian (in 2003) by the Cooperativa Cortina. One of the first works devoted to climbing in the Dolomites. A very fine copy.
Leone Sinigaglia (Turin 1868 - 1944) was an Italian composer and mountaineer. He was guided by Jean-Antoine Carrel during the ascent of the Matterhorn in 1890, when the great guide, aged 62, died of exhaustion after long hours of struggle in the storm and after having brought his party back to safety.
