SMALL BERGÈRE, SO-CALLED ”BERGÈRE DE TOILETTE”
Louis XVI, Paris, ca. 1770. Stamped H. Jacob (Henri Jacob, master craftsman in 1779).
Beech wood carved with rosettes, fluted and molded, and painted gray. Hoof-shaped seat with upholstered cushion on a straight frame and tapered legs. Round upholstered backrest that extends into the armrests, with a recessed cutout at the top center. The front armrests are supported by fluted baluster columns with a gadrooned finish. Brown fabric cover.
55 × 56 × 73 cm.
Losses and signs of use, paintwork heavily rubbed and with losses. Cracks.
