SMITH (Albert). Programme of Mr Albert Smith's ascent of Mont-Blanc, August, 12th & 13th 1851. Paris, Leroux & Cie, 1853. Paper fan with 16 wooden branches, 24 cm, in a double-sided glass case. Precious fan used as a programme for Albert Smith's show, lithographed by Brioude Laguerie in Paris; on the front a view of Mont Blanc with the ascent route and the programme for the show, and on the back views of the ascent from drawings by William Beverley. This fan was sold in the summer during the second cycle of shows, which ended in August 1853. Very few copies of this fan have survived, and they are particularly fragile. This one is well protected in its display case, allowing both sides to be admired. A. Audisio and V. Lisino, Albert Smith. Le spectacle du Mont-Blanc et autres aventures en vente, N° 141-142
