Brown cloth-covered 19.5 x 13.3 cm box, title-piece; stapled in-12 booklet, printed covers; board glued to cloth, folded 11 x 18 cm (unfolded: 57 x 44 cm), bound in full green percaline, gilt title on first board. Second edition of the famous game of the goose, complete in its original box: it includes the rules, the coloured lithographed board (54 hand-coloured vignettes, including 4 in the corners), an ivory die, 6 painted wooden counters and tokens (17 ivory and 48 red). The booklet includes 4 engravings based on drawings by William Beverley, including 2 on the back covers. The first owner of the game glued an autograph message from Albert Smith, dated 2 February 1855 and signed, to the bottom of the box. This message predates the production of the game. Our copy differs from the one described by A. Audisio and V. Lisino in that the edition date has not been obscured by a label; it would therefore appear that this second edition was published in 1861. On the other hand, the box is of a smaller format than the one described, and the title page contains only the words "Mont Blanc". Copy in perfect condition, complete, very rare in this condition. A.
