Lot no. 40083
RARE CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL BOTTLE SNUFF WITH QIANLONG MARK AND OF THE PERIOD, GUANGZHOU (1760-1799).
Of flattened globular form, with a flat gilt rim, supported by a gilt oval rim surrounding a recessed foot which bears an incised Qianlong mark. The body has a yellow background with charming floral motifs, accompanied by a matching cloisonné stopper. In very good condition. Height: 7 cm.
Provenance: former Swiss collection.
Note: It is very rare to find a cloisonné enamel tobacco bottle with the Qianlong reign mark, and only a small number are known. The bottles appear to have been produced in workshops in Guangzhou, but it is uncertain whether they were commissioned by the Court or were luxury items.
