Tortoiseshell fan, China, circa 1800 A rare brown tortoiseshell fan, finely pierced and engraved with garden scenes featuring figures on horseback, in boats or in pavilions. The top of the blades are carved with figures and two dragons facing each other in the centre. The main strands are carved with a phoenix and a dragon.
