SOPHOCLE. Αἱ ἑπτὰ τραγωδίαι. Tragœdiæ septem, una cum omnibus græcis scholiis et cum latinis Joach. Camerarii. S.l. [Geneva], Henri Estienne, 1568. 2 parts in one volume in-4, spotted vellum, smooth spine (Early binding). First edition by the Estienne family, important for the scholies that follow the text, compiled by the Byzantine philologist Demetrius Triclinius.
The original text of Sophocles' tragedies, carefully printed in Greek by Henri Estienne, is followed by commentaries by Joachim Camerarius and his Latin translation of Ajax and Electra.
Handwritten motto at the top of the title: Armat spina rosas. Ex-libris G. Caven. and stamp of St. Peter's College, Glasgow.
