La prise en crosse est ornée d'une élégante tête humaine de forme losangée à face galbée dont les traits fins sont estompés par les manipulations ; elle s'inscrit sur le long cou arqué, incisé d'une succession d'encoches évoquant peut-être la colonne vertébrale du corps dont cet objet est une représentation stylisée. Un clou de fer enfoncé derrière la tête, sous la natte brisée, renforçait sans doute son pouvoir magique. Ce remarquable soufflet devait appartenir au forgeron d'un grand roi tant le raffinement et l'équilibre de ses formes sont exceptionnels. De plus, de tels objets étaient toujours liés au pouvoir royal dont le fer était un attribut majeur. Note : Mary Nooter Roberts, Allen F. The handle is ornamented with an elegant, diamond-shaped human head, the delicate features of its curved face worn away after much use ; the head sits on a long, arched neck, incised with a row of notches, perhaps the spinal chord of the body of which this object is a stylized representation. An iron nail driven into the back of the head under the worn braid is undoubtedly meant to increase the object's magical powers. The delicacy and the balance of its forms is such that this remarkable bellows must have belonged to the blacksmith of a great king ; moreover, objects like this were always linked to royal power and iron was one of its major attributes. 30000 / 40000 €
