Memories of Lazare Carnot (1753-1823) Clock in bronze patinated bronze and ormolu, in the shape of a shield, resting on a hocked base with palmette and rosettes supported by a frieze of foliage, surmounted by an eagle with outstretched wings representing Jupiter, flanked by winged chimeras; (the mahogany base may be associated). The dial is signed by Sauvage in Paris, probably for Thomas Sauvage, a watchmaker who received his master's diploma in 1779. Empire period. H: 48 cm (with mahogany base). This rare model can be compared to a clock with the same type of composition illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de la pendule française, Paris, 1997, p. 283. Provenance : - Lazare Carnot - then descended to the present day
