Commentary:
Commandant Emmanuel-Antoine Lopez was born on 8 May 1787 in Mellid, province of Galicia (Spain). He entered the service as a volunteer in the Asturias regiment on 19 June 1802, was appointed sergeant on 27 February 1804, came to France in May 1807 with the Spanish troops of the Marquis of La Romana and fought with this corps in the campaigns of 1807 and 1808 in Germany and Denmark.
Returning to France after his regiment was disbanded at the end of 1808, he was admitted as sergeant-major to the Spanish Joseph-Napoléon regiment in the service of France on 12 June 1809. He became second lieutenant on 13 October 1812, lieutenant on 23 April 1813 and captain on 8 July of the same year.
He saved the flag of his regiment, which had been decimated in Russia at Wilna in 1812.
Discharged with all foreign troops on 17 April 1814 and placed on non-active status.
Captain in the 6th foreign regiment on 25 June 1815, resigned on 21 August, naturalised French by order of 10 April 1818, he was appointed captain in the royal staff corps on 12 December 1818. Successively aide-de-camp to Generals Ordonneau, d'Hénin, Bigarré and Colbert, he was appointed chef d'escadron on 31 December 1831; retired on 18 July 1845, he was appointed commissaire du Gouvernement to the 1st council of war of the 13th military division on 24 January 1849, he ceased these functions on 20 November 1855, and died in Guingamp (Côtes-du-Nord) on 14 March 1862.

Wounds: Bayonet wound on 12 May 1813, at the battle of Lutzen; shot in the right foot on 16 October 1813, at the battle of Leipzig; sabre wound to the head on 31 October 1813, at the battle of Hanau.
