HISTORICAL SOUVENIRS. Kepi and jacket of General Charles HUNTZIGER (1880-1941). Major General's kepi, 1931 model, in madder-coloured cloth, headband in fine black cloth embroidered with 2 rows of oak leaves, golden soutaches lined with a silver soutache indicating a higher command, inner cap in black satin, headband in black leather, visor in black leather stamped on the underside "C. H", BE.H", BE, 2nd suit jacket in fine khaki cloth, with "aiglon" collar, fastened by a row of 7 gilt buttons of the general officers' model, shoulder straps in gilt canetille, breast pockets with flap, cuffed sleeves each decorated with 5 silver stars indicating an army general, numerous decoration straps including that of Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, beige cotton lining, label of tailor PH. CORNET of the Ecole Supérieure de Guerre with handwritten indication "Gal Huntziger, January 1931", khaki mohair belt with gold Medusa head plaque. Sold with a presentation bust, contemporary shirt and black tie. A framed photogravure under glass, portrait of General Huntziger in 1940 by JONAS and published in l'Illustration, 38 X 28 cm, an album of18 official photos 13 X 18 cm around 1941 during an official trip of the general in province. Minor wear to the jacket, a few holes. BE HUNTZIGER Charles (1880-1941). Of Alsatian origin, he entered St-Cyr and joined the colonial infantry in 1900, where he spent his entire career as an officer. In 1914-1918, he was posted to the Eastern Front and took part in General Franchet d'Esperey's offensive in Serbia in 1918. In 1924 he was in China, commanding the occupation corps. He was appointed brigadier general in 1928, then division general in 1933, corps general in 1935 and army general in 1938. In 1933 he was appointed Superior Commander of the Levant troops. He became a member of the High War Council in 1938. In May-June 1940, he commanded the IInd Army, then the 4th Army Group in the Ardennes. On 13 May 1940, he suffered the Sedan breakthrough. After the capitulation, he chaired the French delegation responsible for signing the armistice on 22 June 1940 in the clearing at Rethondes, near Compiègne, and then the delegation responsible for signing the armistice on 24 June 1940 near Rome. He then sat on the German Armistice Commission in Wiesbaden. He was appointed head of the army after the Armistice and then Minister for War on 6 September 1940. He was killed in a plane crash on his return from an inspection mission in North Africa on 11 November 1941.
