Certificate: Letter of authenticity from Charles Duke.
Astronaut Charlie Duke certifies that this Beta Cloth Patch was flown to the moon aboard the Lunar Module Orion during the flight of Apollo 16, the fifth lunar landing and the first and only mission that landed in the rugged lunar highlands.
This patch was one of several items that were taken by the crew and was stored in a compartment on the right side of the Lunar Module. It remained on the moon for the three days that Apollo 16 was on the moon and was exposed to the vacuum of space every time they exited the Module for their lunar excursions.
The cloth is signed with the following words:
‘Flown to the lunar surface aboard the LM Orion, Charlie Duke, Apollo 16 LMP’.
