First edition of this important collection of gynaecological writings. Published after those of Gesner and Wolf, which were then out of print, Israel Spach's work contains everything written by Greek, Arabic and Latin authors, to which he added those of G. Bauhin, Paré, François Rousset, Martin Akakia (physician to Henri III), Luis Mercado and others.
Numerous woodcut illustrations in the text.
Israël Spach (Strasbourg 1560-1610) studied medicine in Strasbourg, in Paris with Riolan and then in Tübingen, where he defended his thesis De affectionibus uteri in 1581. On his return to Strasbourg, he took up the chair of Hebrew at the Académie in 1589, while still teaching medicine. He remained a professor until his death.
