SPRANGER, Bartholomaeus (1546-1611). Venus and Mercury. [ca. 1600]. Engraving after a drawing by Bartholomaeus Spranger, featuring two columns of Latin text ('Ad Veneris... perennis aquis'). In the scene, Venus and Mercury embrace on a bed; behind them, Cupid brandishes an arrow, while another putto seizes the god's caduceus. Copper engraving (390 x 270mm). Trimmed to the plate mark and mounted on support, within a frame. (1)
