A fine copy, very pure, presumed to have belonged to Matthias de Staël von Holstein, son of Mme de Staël killed in a duel in 1813, with the inscription at the foot of each volume: M. de STA (the spines not being wide enough, the name has been cut off; but sometimes the following E appears on the edge). The inscription on the title-piece Delphine par Mad. De Staël confirms this impression: the repetition of the author's name is no coincidence.
