DIGNITARY STATUETTE The figure is depicted standing, with arms and hands outstretched on either side of the loincloth. Legs together. He is wearing a long loincloth with a knot on the chest. The head has now disappeared. On the back, a rear pillar with a hieroglyphic column. For a similar model, statuette of a man in basalt c. 1800 BC. Museum of Fine Art, Budapest, 51.330 (fig.1). A similar statuette sold at Christie's NY, 5 June 2014, USD 56,250 (fig.2). Carved basalt. Height 23.5 cm. Missing head and feet. Egypt, Middle Kingdom, c. 12th dynasty, c. 1840-1800 BC. A Middle-Kingdom basalt statuette of a Nobleman. Represented standing front, with straight arms and hands places on either sides of the loincloth. Legs joined. The figure wears a long triangular garnment with a knot at the chest. The head is now missing. On the back, back-pillar with a hieroglyphic column. Ca. Dynasty 12th, 1840-1800 B.C.E.
