At the same time he was reading law, and he took his doctor's degree in 1917. After his training he worked as a painter, etcher, engraver and lithographer and applied himself mainly to sullen, grotesque and ironic themes. In several, closed cycles he proved himself as a graphic artist and accomplished portfolios such as "Puppenspiel/Puppet Show", "Spielmann und Teufel/The Gleeman and the Devil" and "Musikalische Miniaturen/Musical Miniatures". He also illustrated literary works by Arthur Schnitzler and Hanns Heinz Ewers from 1921 onward and in 1925 became co-publisher and artistic director of magazine "Kokain. Eine moderne Revue" Aged only 31, he terminated his artistic career. From then on to his death in 1967 he worked only in white-bread jobs, such as legal adviser to the Municipality of Vienna.
