Lot no. 1979
Stefan Hoenerloh (born 1960 in Karlsruhe, lives and works in Berlin since 1980) "Uliza Renaro Gallo. 2nd period of the 3rd style. Second Version of V.A.L. I". Original title The depiction shows a grisaille-like painted architectural vision in the tradition of Piranesi's Capricci, characteristic of Hoenerloh: a steep, banister-less stone staircase leads up to what appears to be an old Italian palace, as if from nowhere. Only at first glance do his staged, deserted, mystical urban landscapes appear to be faithful views of real architecture. Hoenerloh succeeds in creating this impression of reality thanks to his unerring instinct for urban spaces, architectural compositions and immaculate architectural details. Nevertheless, a closer look reveals how his pictures transcend the boundaries of plausibility, both architecturally and in terms of urban planning, as well as in terms of perspective, colouring and lighting. The works reflect his intensive engagement with the history of art and architecture, intensified by many study trips to Rome and other cities, his preference for historical buildings, Palladio, Piranesi and even Schinkel, as well as 19th century Berlin and Parisian urban architecture such as Georges-Eugène Haussmann. Mixed media on canvas, mounted on panel by the artist. R. a. monogrammed; verso inscr., titled a. dat. 1997 and with image details and "Bedienungsanleitung". 90 cm x 90 cm. Frame. Sum over paths", 2nd revised edition, Berlin 2013, ill. 10 (other version from 1990, titled "Villa Amalgamo Leguan 1, Ecke Uliza Renaro Gallo").
