STENDHAL. Rome, Naples and Florence in 1817. Paris, Delaunay, Pélicier, 1817. In-8, pink half calf, spine with raised bands decorated with gilt and cold motifs, untrimmed (old binding). First edition. This is the first work published by Henri Beyle under the pseudonym of Stendhal. Seeing these three Italian cities as cities of the mind, he celebrates the development of the arts and the intensity of feeling to be found there. From the Jacques Vaillant library with bookplate. Copy washed and rebacked in an old binding, endpapers and title-pieces renewed, minor repairs to a few leaves, spine faded.
