Original French edition, translated by Paschal Grousset (author of children's books under the pseudonym André Laurie). Treasure Island first appeared in serial form, from October 1881 to January 1882, in the Scottish magazine Young Folks, before being published in volume form in London in 1883. It was then that Edmond Schérer, a critic at Le Temps, brought it to the attention of Pierre-Jules Hetzel, who on his advice acquired exclusive translation rights. The novel first appeared in serial form in Le Temps, then in volume form in 1885 in the Bibliothèque d'éducation et de récréation. Publisher's 36-page catalogue (CI) bound at the end of the volume.
